In the past it was the island of the Salonitanian port which explains why many remains of the roman past could be found there. In the XIII century there were a castle there and a propriety of the Split's archibishop. Vranjic was considerably damaged during the Turhish-Venetian wars, so the parish church of St Marthin was reconstructed in the XVIII century. We can find there very nice fresque a work by croatian painter Jozo Kljakovic from 1928. This very romantic place as far as we look the ambient, today is totally infused into the industrial complex of the Split's North port. Nevertheless it was called „Little Venice“ in the past because of its astonishing beauty.
