Vodice is town and harbour in northern Dalmatia, 11 km northwest of Sibenik, on the main road. Chief occupations are farming, fishing and tourism. The town of Vodice got its name from the abundance of drinking water in its vicinity. It is first mentioned at the beginning of the 15th century. Beautifull pebble beaches, peaceful coves and the clean air have contributed to the development of the tourism, which started in the 60-ies and the town is today wholly orientated towards it. Vodice relatively new settlement, first recorded in 1402. At the time of the Turkish attacks defence walls and towers were built around the place. Part of the walls and the so-called Coric tower has been preserved. The remains of a building from the Turkish period are at the entrance into the town. The small church of the Holy Cross (the former parish church), is situated on the graveyard to the west of the town. | | | | |
Along with a variety of accommodation capacities - hotels, apartments, campsites, the extraordinary rich catering offer made Vodice a very popular summer resort. There are more than 100 catering establishments in Vodice, half of them offering various food (fish, mussels, crabs, pasta, traditional cuisine), including the old and original Dalmatian dishes. Vodice disposes of three tennis courts, a football field, as well as basketball and volleyball courts. The sports centre is located near Hotel Olimpija. The traditional feast of Vodice takes place in August, and the Day of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (16th of July) represents a special event. Vodice hosts the Croatian Festival of Local Radio Stations (beginning of June). The galleries "Bast" and "Strikoman" add to the cultural offer of the town in the summer. Organized excursions are offered.
Vodice ACI Marina has 450 berths in the sea and 150 places on the land. Vodice Marina lies in the north-eastern part of Vodice (the Vrulje cove).
