Promajna lies below the slopes of Biokovo mountain, along the old coastal road, 4 km to the south of Baska Voda and 6 km from the city of Makarska. The name Promajna was mentioned for the first time in the year 1674, however a large number of archeological discoveries (ceramics, amphoras, coins) testify about living in this place from the ancient II century B.C. Tomb's discovery of jewellery (pearl neckless, bracelet, ring) is one of the most important discoveries of the ancient antics on the area of the Riviera of Makarska. Recently, due to the development of tourism, the village of Promajna started to expand toward the coast. Actually the beginnings of the tourism are connected with the construction of the Children's Village, institution for Children's care of the respiratory problems. In the recent time in Promajna are build so many private houses which offer rooms and appartments of the quality and at the beginning of the century the first high quality hotel has been built.  | | | |  |
The coastal promenade of Promajna leads to the nearby Baska Voda, also the village has a really good infrastructure and all the contents needed by a tourist (post office, shops, tourist agency, exchange office). Occasional entertainment programs are organized during the tourist season and on the occasion of the Homeland Thanksgiving Day (5th of August) the Fishermen's Night is organized. Local restaurants offer all typical gastronomic specialities. To resume a long pebble beach, warm and clean sea, clean air and preserved nature are the main characteristics which provide very good opportunity for peacefull vacations.
