The place is actually situated on a peninsula being an island before a bank had connected it with the land. On the site of the old settlement a medieval graveyard with tombstones and the Church of St. Nicholas have been preserved. The parish church on the islet was built in 1615 and reconstructed in Baroque style in the 18th century. There are also some remains of French fortifications dating from the beginning of the 19th century.
