Komiza is the small town and port on the western coast of the island of Vis, in the deep bay of Komiza, at the foot of the hill Hum. It is connected to the mainland by daily ferry lines Split-Vis, and from the ferry port Vis you have 22 km on the island's main road to Komiza. The inhabitants work in fishing, agriculture, and tourism. It presents a typical mediterranean village characterized by the small stone lanes and the stone houses pocketed next to the port.

Komiza attracts tourists with its beautifull beaches while thanks to its mild mediterranean climate your staying in Komiza is pleasant also during the winter months. All along the eastern coast there are pebble beaches and some sand beaches also.

Komiza is the place where fishing of these oriental coasts of the Adriatic was born. It was always proud for its fame in the past as the fishermen place. In the old venetian fortress on the coast ther is the Museum of fishing, the only one of the kind in Croatia, where all the traditional tools of the past have been exposed.

The inhabitants grow grapes and fruit on the fertile fields in the interior, while the island is primarily known for carob and its wines. Fishing and wine production are the basis of the economy of the place. Most people have heard of if not tried about famous wines vugava and plavac mali. The agricultural tourism have been developing in the last years. Besides these excellent wines some local gastronomic specialities have been offered.

The gratest advantage on the island is its untouched preserved nature. The International coorporation for the protection of the ambyent have included Vis on the list of ten most preserved islands in Europe. Outdoor enthusiasts and lovers of an active holidays can play boccia, basketball, volleyball, handball and soccer, or practice some water sports like diving, surfing and sailing.

To those looking for cultural events, we recommend the Komiza Summer Festival when songs by traditional men's choirs can be heard throughout Komiza evoking from the traditional taverns. Also you you can feel the odour of the past in the 15th century fortress in the harbor or in St. Nicola’s monastery from the 13th century, also known as Muster. There are also a 13th century Romanesque church and a 16th century Baroque shrine in the place, besides many Secession edifices. If you want to move around a bit do not fail to visit the city of Vis and the island of Bisevo famous for its natural phenomena the Blue Cave.
