Rogac is a hamlet of the village of Grohote on the northern coast of the island of Solta, 2 km northwest of Grohote. It is the main port of the island but also a tourist village. The coast in the vicinity of the port is indented with a number of coves which are a good premise for development of nautical tourism. The local road connects Rogac with other places on the island. It is daily connected to Split with ferry and catamaran lines and with the rest of the island it is connected by taxi and by bus. Rogac is the oldest coastal village on Solta, always inhabited in the past but because of the fear of pirates and because of the distance from Solta’s field there were never too many inhabitants. Tracing back even to the Roman period we can see that people lived in Rogac. In the southern cove of Banje there were found remains of a Roman farm building. The most interesting find was villae rusticae, which contained even a bathroom. The cove of Banje features the remains of a Roman fishpond and walls. The beach in Rogac is called Banje. But here on the island any rock is a potential place for taking a bath and many people prefer to take a place for sunbathing and swimming on numerous rocks by the sea. We recommend walking to nearby flat stones by the sea where you can enjoy in privacy. There are nice private apartments and catering service which includes pizzeria and caffe in the touristic offer in Rogac.
