Famous epigram by Licijan dedicated to a local water spring, carved in live rock near the sea, has remained undamaged since Roman times. Zivogosce was first mentioned under its present name in 1434. The Franciscan monastery in Zivogosce was founded in 1616, and for the centuries was the centre of the spiritual life and literacy of the area, with rich library and artistic works of value. Below the Franciscan monastery is a large freshwater spring, which remains on a dry terrain during the low tide.
